Update the dated kitchen but include solutions for lack of storage and minimal seating. There was also a request to open the kitchen up to the family room as the homeowner felt isolated during family gatherings during meal prep but still wanted the ability to close of the kitchen if necessary. In order to accomplish, the chase containing plumbing was relocated; the dining room doorway was relocated to where the chase had been; doorways leading to family room were relocated and changed to pocket doors; banquette seating was added below windows to maximize seating and create additional storage; a large furniture style pantry was designed and each cabinet contains a special accessory purchased locally based on the homeowner’s habits and preferences. Result: there is now more storage than the homeowner has items; large family meals can be accommodated; and working in the kitchen is extremely efficient.
